Just kidding, I'm not that famous yet. But let's talk about my Instagram audience.
When Instagram first came out, I wasn't that interested in the platform. I just never knew what to post pictures of. It was much different for Twitter, Facebook and Snapchat. I knew I'd get addicted to those, but Instagram wasn't for me at first.
Boy, how things have changed over the past year! Instagram is now the social media platform I use the most, and it's by far my favorite. Around a year ago, I switched my Instagram account to a business profile instead of a personal profile because i wanted to be able to see my posts' performance.
Read on to find out what I've learned about my Instagram followers.
Who: Over 70 percent of my current 1,009 followers are women, and I'm not surprised by it. Many of them probably followed me from CollegeFashionista hashtags, which are mainly used by college women. Speaking of age, most of my followers are between the ages of 18 and 24, which is the group I fall in (I'm 22). The next highest age group is 24-34, and the rest of the groups have much lower numbers.
When: My followers are most active on Instagram Wednesday through Saturday. On those days, they are generally steadily active between the hours of 12 p.m. through 12 a.m. I used to put a lot more effort into posting at certain times of the day, sometimes down to the exact minute (it was too much work, I'm over it). Now, I generally like to post late afternoons and in the evening. I've noticed that it doesn't really make a difference in my engagement anymore.
Where: Most of my followers are actually from my town, aka people I grew up and went to high school with. Next up as the highest location is New York City, which makes sense because it's literally right next door to my home state of New Jersey.
What: The majority of my posts that have gotten the most engagement on my feed have one thing in common: me! Whenever I post photos of myself, I always expect that they will get a lot more likes than a picture of a landscape or flat lay.
It's also important to note that audiences change over time! My audience was definitely different when I first switched over to a business Instagram profile. I check my insights every so often to make sure that my posts are performing as well as I want them to!
